The Common Thread Collective permits entrepreneurs to use their own personal mobile devices, including but not limited to, smartphones, tablets, and computers as well as computer accessories/equipment, and  camera/photography equipment (“devices”) to perform work for CTC with the understanding that CTC provides it’s Entrepreneur s all necessary equipment and use of personal items is voluntary. CTC is not liable for any personal devices used to perform work related tasks. 

To protect the CTC and its entrepreneurs, any use of a device for business purposes must conform to this policy as described below. In addition, each Entrepreneur is responsible for using his or her device in a productive, ethical and lawful manner.

This policy applies to work performed on a device on the CTC’s behalf during working and nonworking hours, on and off of CTC’s premises.

No Expectation of Privacy

Though use of personal devices is permitted, CTC reserves the right to monitor, intercept, review and erase, without further notice, all content created on, transmitted to, received or printed from, or stored or recorded on the device for the CTC’s business or on behalf of the CTC.

All materials, data, communications and information, including but not limited to e-mail (both outgoing and incoming), telephone conversations and voice mail recordings, instant messages, and internet and social media postings and activities (“content”) created on, transmitted to, received or printed from, or stored or recorded on the device for CTC’s business or on behalf of the CTC is the property of CTC, regardless of who owns the device used. Likewise, if a separation between CTC and an Entrepreneur  occurs, CTC maintains the right to access personal devices to ensure all CTC related apps, content and materials are wiped from the device.

By signing this policy acknowledgment, you consent to such monitoring and CTC’s right to copy, erase or remotely wipe the device of proprietary CTC content as outlined above on the device. You also agree that the use of any device for CTC’s business or on behalf of CTC is at your own risk and CTC will not be responsible for any losses, damages or liability arising out of the use of any device for CTC’s business or on behalf of CTC under this policy, including any loss, corruption or use of any content or loss of access to or use of any device, its software or its functionality.

Appropriate Use

CTC’s policies prohibiting harassment, discrimination and retaliation, contained in the Entrepreneur  Handbook apply to the use of all devices under this policy. You may not use any device in a manner that may be construed by others as harassing or offensive based on race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, religious beliefs or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.

Nonexempt Entrepreneur s using their own devices under this policy to perform work for CTC must record all time spent working, including time spent working on devices during non-working hours.

New Entrepreneurs who are using their own devices under this policy for the first time must erase all information related to any previous employment before using their devices for CTC’s business or on behalf of CTC. Any Entrepreneur s who discontinue use of their devices under this policy or leave CTC’s employ must allow CTC to remove any of CTC’s work product or sensitive business content from their devices and to disable any software or services provided by CTC’s on their devices.

CTC prohibits Entrepreneurs from talking, texting, e-mailing or otherwise using a device while operating a vehicle of any sort on CTC business. Entrepreneurs must also abide by all applicable legal prohibitions on the same. For their own health and safety and the health and safety of others, Entrepreneurs should not use their devices while operating vehicles of any kind.

Technological Support

CTC does not provide technological support for Entrepreneur  owned devices. By signing this policy acknowledgment, you acknowledge that you alone are responsible for any repairs, maintenance or replacement costs and services.

Confidentiality and Proprietary Rights

CTC’s confidential information and intellectual property, including trade secrets, are extremely valuable to CTC. You must treat them accordingly and not jeopardize them through your use of your device. Disclosure of CTC’s confidential information to anyone outside CTC and use of CTC’s intellectual property is subject to CTC’s policies.

Any work product created, stored or maintained by you on your device is subject to CTC’s policies.

Consequences for Failure to Comply

Entrepreneurs who violate any provision of this policy are subject to discipline, up to and including termination of employment.

Administration of this Policy

CTC expressly reserves the right to change, modify or delete the provisions of this Bring Your Own Device to Work Policy without notice.

Human Resources in the Differentiation Department  is responsible for the administration of this policy. If you have any questions regarding this policy or if you have questions about bringing your own device to work that are not addressed in this policy, please contact Human Resources in the Differentiation Department .

Conduct Not Prohibited by This Policy

This policy is not intended to preclude or dissuade Entrepreneur s from engaging in legally protected activities/activities protected by state or federal law, including the National Labor Relations Act, such as discussing wages, benefits or terms and conditions of employment, or legally required activities.
