Yom Kippur

PSA: If you hear a ram’s horn being blown in your neighborhood tonight… it’s because Yom Kippur has begun! 🐏

History Yom Kippur

The first Yom Kippur took place when the Israelites repented from their sin of worshipping a golden calf. 🐮

Repentance and forgiveness is the central theme of this “High Holy Day”. ➡️ According to Jewish tradition, the ten days between Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur are when God judges all creatures, so Jews often honor this time with prayer, reflection, making amends, and repenting for wrong doing. 💙

Observing Yom Kippur in 2021

This holiday typically involves refraining from work (check out CTC’s policy on Cultural Identity Celebration PTO 😍) to attend 5 prayer services in at the local synagogue 🕍 and fasting from both food & drink. This communal fast symbolizes the cleansing that takes place during Yom Kippur.
