Disability Independence Day

On this day in 1990, President Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into existence – an action that Justin Dart Jr. (aka The Grandfather of ADA) described as “the world’s first declaration of equality for people with disabilities.”

  • Required accessibility commendations in a number of government-sanctioned spaces (courthouses, voting booths, etc). ♿️
  • Guaranteed education for children with disabilities πŸ“š
  • Protection against housing discrimination based on ability 🏑
  • Inspired 180 countries to pass legislation similar to ADA 🌍
